Check out this cool Fed Greek hero video that we found as a promo for the Olympics. Do you think they will put Rafa in the next one?
Roger Federer was a surprise guest at the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships players party on Tuesday night. Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic were also in attendance.
Federer Not Really Hurt?

Below is an interview with Roger Federer’s fitness trainer and conditioning coach Pierre Paganini who had a sit down with Blick. He goes on to say that R-Fed is not hurt but rather this is more preventative maintenance and he needs to work on a few things rather than play more events. This just adds more questions for Federer fans as to whether just wants to beat the record for number of slams or if he still feels the #1 ranking is attainable. What do you guys think of Fed’s move? Interview is below:
- Mr. Paganini, what’s going on with Federer? What is he doing?
Paganini: At the moment we give him some time to recover. We intensified the work with his physio therapist. But to make it clear once and for all: Federer is not injured. What we are doing is pure prophylaxis. We are working for the next two weeks in Dubai. Roger also flew in two sparring partners to be able two work on the court.
-Was Federer a 100% fit in Melbourne?
Paganini: Well we have to go further back for this. Roger got injured last November. His injury is cured. Everything was ok in Melbourne. But with so many matches it is not easy to recover 100%. He wasn’t impeded in his game. But it meant a lot of stress, the journey, the pressure, etc., so the body’s reaction in a stressfull situation and during a normal traning is not the same. He felt it, and that’s why we have decided to take a break in order to prevent other injuries from occuring [sic].
-What did you learn from it? Do you have to change something?
Paganini: Well we understood that we have to spend even more time doing physical preparation. This is the priority between the tournaments. Roger wants to pay attention to his body in order to be able to manage those stressfull situations.
- Does that mean that he is going to play fewer tournaments?
Paganini: No, it simplyn [sic] means to plan in a different way, manage the time differently. We have to organise ourselves even better in order to be able to do a proper physical education wherever Roger is.
- Roger is not going to play the Davis Cup. As a Swiss man it must hurt you, but as a fitness coach you must think that it is right.
Paganini: As a fitness coach I always should be against it whenever it concerns the body. You have to recognize that if he would be playing Davis Cup he’d be playing as the team leader. He’d play Friday, Saturday and Sunday non stop. That’s just a lot for your body. Roger is like a jewel. And he knows that it would just be too risky.

OFF COURT - DUBAI AND DAVIS CUP
Dear Fans,
Today I am disappointed to announce that I am withdrawing from both Dubai and the Davis Cup tie in the United States. This was a hard decision to make as I am missing not only one of my favorite events on tour in Dubai but I am also missing out on an opportunity to help my country try and move on to the next round of Davis Cup. After injuring my back last fall, I did not have enough time to strengthen it completely. As a precautionary measure, I will use the next few weeks to make sure the back injury is fully rehabilitated and I am ready for the rest of the 2009 season.
As always, thanks for your continued support.
Roger
Reports coming out the last couple of days have said that both Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer will miss an undisclosed amount of time due to some lingering injuries. With Nadal the reoccuring tendonitis in the knee flared up during the Rotterdam event last week and was quite evident on the court in the finals against Andy Murray. Roger has had back issues since Australia but it has only gotten worse in practice. Both players will be missing the event in Dubai next week and while Rafa feels he will be ok for Davis Cup, Roger has pulled out the event against the US (Andy is probably relieved).
Dubai is due to start on the 23rd of February, however, Rafa’s got to do some thinking before letting us know what he will do.
“I hope I can go (to Dubai), the season just started, and I already have way too many long matches under my belt, we’ll see how I go”, said the champ this week on national television.
